Having a niche product or audience isn't bad. It actually can be used to your advantage. Our team has seen it many times.

Pedal Mafia partnered with Aligned Growth to increase brand awareness within the cycling community while building a library of creator content for both organic and paid social media.

Despite serving a specialized audience of dedicated cyclists, our team developed a scalable seeding program that consistently delivered high-quality content, expanded the brand's creator network, and identified athletes with long-term partnership potential.

By focusing on creators who genuinely love and live within the cycling lifestyle, the program proved that even niche brands can achieve meaningful reach through authentic creator marketing.

The Challenge

Pedal Mafia's primary objectives were to drive brand and product awareness across social media, as well as generate a consistent library of creator content for paid and organic marketing.

Because Pedal Mafia caters to a passionate and specialized cycling audience, the team initially questioned whether a gifting program would be effective. There were concerns about finding enough qualified creators who would genuinely value the product and consistently produce high-quality content without traditional paid sponsorships.

The opportunity was to demonstrate that a carefully curated seeding strategy (focused on credibility over scale) could generate authentic content, strengthen brand awareness, and uncover creators capable of becoming long-term brand partners.

The Strategy

Our team implemented an always-on seeding program centered around gifting products to 20 carefully selected cycling creators each month. Rather than prioritizing creator volume, the strategy focused on experienced cyclists whose audiences aligned closely with Pedal Mafia's premium positioning and authentic cycling culture.

We went with a quality > quantity gifting program approach.

The objective extended beyond generating immediate awareness. Each monthly cohort served as an opportunity to:

  • Produce authentic, high-quality content for both paid and organic channels.
  • Build a growing library of evergreen creative assets.
  • Identify creators with strong potential for long-term ambassador relationships.
  • Validate that a gifting-first approach could succeed even within a highly niche category.

By prioritizing relevance and authenticity over follower count alone, the program consistently attracted creators who naturally integrated Pedal Mafia into their cycling lifestyle, resulting in content that resonated with the brand's core audience while remaining highly usable across marketing channels.

The Results

In just six months, the program delivered substantial awareness and content production at an efficient cost.

Also, Pedal Mafia significantly improved efficiency month over month, demonstrating the growing efficiency of the program as creator relationships matured and content strategies became more refined.

So far this year, our gifting has brought in...

  • 7.5M total impressions
  • 514 pieces of content
  • 101 seeding orders
  • 85 profiles posted
  • $2.02 overall CPM

Why This Worked

Three key factors drove success:

1. A Highly Engaged Cycling Community

Pedal Mafia's products naturally resonated with creators who are deeply embedded in the cycling community. Rather than creating a single sponsored-style post, many creators organically incorporated the apparel into multiple rides and recurring content, reinforcing authentic product usage and extending the brand's visibility beyond the initial activation.

2. Authentic Creator Storytelling

The highest-performing content reflected creators' genuine cycling routines instead of feeling like traditional advertisements. Whether documenting training sessions, group rides, coffee stops, or race preparation, the apparel became a natural part of the story, making the content more engaging and relatable to fellow cyclists.

3. Leveraging Native Social Trends

Several top-performing pieces successfully combined cycling content with trending social media formats, allowing Pedal Mafia to participate in platform-native conversations without sacrificing brand authenticity. These trend-driven videos generated some of the strongest engagement, demonstrating that niche brands can still capitalize on broader social behaviors while staying true to their audience.

Looking Ahead

The gifting program successfully validated Pedal Mafia's influencer strategy by building a high-quality library of creator content while identifying the creative styles, storytelling approaches, and creator profiles that resonated most with its audience.

With these learnings in place, we are now evolving their influencer strategy toward a paid creator program. This next phase will provide greater creative direction and consistency while allowing the brand to intentionally produce proven content formats that can be scaled across both paid and organic media.

By combining the insights gained through seeding with more controlled partnerships, our team is well positioned to maximize creative performance and continue growing brand awareness within the cycling community.
